Bluesman Donnie Duree
Donnie Duree

Bluesman Donnie Duree is a legend in his own mind. Never content with an average man's ambitions, Donnie's keen sense of abandon has served him well many times in the past, such as when his ex-wives got together to compare notes and strategize on his potential whereabouts. But he's a steadfast man. Some would even say stubborn. After a brief career modeling for the silhouette on Kooter Brown's Music Tavern logo, Donnie turned his attention to video poker and became one of the most advanced poker icons of Barber, Oklahoma. (In the not-so-distant past, Barber was home to both poker and chess champions whose rivals drove from surrounding states to best-almost always to their chagrin. And when not to their chagrin, then to their shock, amazement, disappointment and utter disbelieve. "How could this happen?" they would raise their heads and outstretched hands toward the heavens to cry out. And that is when they would notice the cow in the tree in the pasture across the road.

Virtually distracted from their existential moment, they'd stick around till morning, so they could take a picture for some forensic friend back home who could never quite verify without a DNA sample. You could always count on Kooter's to lend you a friendly sofabed when the other choice was driving without your car keys.) Before long, Donnie was tapped by the Red Dirt Binkies, for a Sampler tune or two, and you can pick up two great songs he wrote on that album. His gorgeous soulful Denver in the Rain was selected as a cover tune by the Holistix who produced it on an album that came out in 2007, recorded at Jeff Parker's Cimmaron Sound Studio in Tahlequah. Next, Donnie appears on this CD with one of his sweetest tunes, written about 25 feet from the Illinois River at a time when that old river was taking the place of Wall Street.
